The Martha Stecher Reed Library

The mission of the Martha Stecher Reed Library is to support the research and teaching goals of the Akron Art Museum. The library collection includes over 11,000 books, 38 art periodical subscriptions and 5,200 artist biographical files. Books held by the library are cataloged in the University of Akron Libraries Catalog, an online public access catalog. Items are labeled "Art Museum" in the location portion of the UA Libraries Catalog record.

The library is a non-circulating/closed stack facility. However, visitors are welcome to utilize the library's resources during the hours that it is open to the public or by making an appointment. The library is typically open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 am - 4 pm. Please call ahead at

The Martha Stecher Reed library received its name in 1972, when Charles S. Reed made a generous gift to the museum in tribute to his late wife. A portrait of Mrs. Reed, painted in 1953 by Pietro Annigoni, is on view in the library's reading room.
