Donations & Sponsorships

All types of support are vital in helping the museum present inspirational exhibitions, acquire superb works of art and offer meaningful education programs for everyone who visits.

We invite you to explore the many ways to support the museum.

Make a Donation

Annual Fund

Yearly support from our members and friends is critical for the general operations of the Akron Art Museum. Annual gifts can be made at any time or during our yearly campaign. This is a wonderful opportunity to support programs at the museum that are meaningful to you.

Tribute & Memorial Gifts

Tributes and Memorial Gifts can be made in honor of a friend, family member or business associate. The honored individual or family will receive an acknowledgement that a gift has been made. All Tribute and Memorial Gifts are also acknowledged in the museum's quarterly members' magazine, view.

Masterpiece Society

The Masterpiece Society gives recognition to donors and friends who have informed the museum of their intention to include the Akron Art Museum in their estate plans. Throughout its history, the museum has received many such special gifts that have helped build the museum's endowment and have provided essential operating support for its incredibly diverse programs.

For many donors, remembering the museum in their will with a bequest is the most realistic and straightforward way of making a significant gift to the museum. Bequests reduce the size of the taxable portion of your estate and the size of the federal estate tax liability. In general, bequests are also not subject to state inheritance or estate taxes.

There are many different types of bequests. Some of the most common are listed below:

Specific Bequest: The museum receives a specific dollar amount or a specific asset(s) such as securities, real estate or tangible personal property including works of art.

Residuary Bequest: The museum receives all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate after the payment of any specific bequests and all estate-related expenses.

Retirement Plan: The museum is designated as a beneficiary of the remainder of your IRA, tax-deferred annuity, qualified pension or profit-sharing plan.

Testamentary Charitable Remainder Trust: The trust provides one or more heirs with an annuity or unitrust distribution for life, after which the assets pass to the museum.

To ensure that your exact intentions are carried out, we encourage you to consult with your financial or legal advisor for specific advice regarding your estate.
